Story of the church

Very probably, the origin of the old church dates back to the XVI century, since in a report of Bishop Filippo Gesualdi of 1605, it had already been mentioned. On January 3rd 1878, because of a landslide the church was destroyed, and, after a lot of requests for help, the works of rebuilding started again 28 years later. On July 16 th 1906, Monsignor Lorenzo Chieppa, who was at the times bishop of Cariati , consecrated the first stone . It was built on the same place where the old structure stood , but with a shape different from the previous one .
