Saints Peter and Paul [
XIV secolo ]
Story of the church
The church was founded before the XV c.
It keeps a lot of paintings and sculptures of the XVIII c. , but the most important work is the precious double “ icon of the New Odigitria”. Once the work was worshipped in the Byzantine Abbey of Saint Mary of Patir . It was commissioned by Abbot Atanasio Calceopulo in those years in which he was archimandrite of the abbey, from 1453 to 1561. It was moved into Corigliano’s church, .by Father Basiliano Valentino Marchese, after the suppression of the abbey in 1809. The icon has on the recto , on a gold leaf background , the image of the Virgin Mary with the Holy Child and on the back , on a dark blue background , Jesus on the Cross, along with the Virgin Mary and John the Evangelist
