Story of Achiropita
Description
The painting reproduces in six decorated with figures panels , the popular tale about the origin of the Byzantine icon of Our Lady of Achiropita. The work was commissioned by Archbishop Camaldari, bishop of Rossano from 1762 to 1778 and Archbishop Marsiglia had it restored in Rossano from 1931 to 1948. The coats of arms of both bishops are at the centre bottom of the painting.
