Pyx with Monsignor Cilento ‘s coat of arms
Description
The pyx , in golden silver, was used in the Cathedral to keep the hosts after the Eucaristic Celebration. The work has at the base three , full relief sculpted engraved angels, each holding in their hands an object ( a cross, the crown of thorns and a ladder), representing the symbols of the passion of Jesus Christ. The work, as the coat of arms engraved under the base testifies to, was commissioned by Monsignor Cilento who gave it to the Cathedral of Rossano in 1859 after he came back from Rome , as Mosignor Luigi Renzo wrote (quot. Op. p. 34).
